Description

Inspects, maintains fabricates, purchases, and/or repairs all rigging equipment; (including but not limited to) hoists, chains, ropes, wires, hooks, lifting lungs and various connecting devices, etc.

Job Details

Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Inspects, maintains fabricates, purchases, and/or repairs all rigging equipment; (including but not limited to) hoists, chains, ropes, wires, hooks, lifting lungs and various connecting devices, etc.
  • Maintains up-to-date list of all inspection records, to comply with Site and OSHA standards
  • Purchases, inspects, and issues all wire and fabric slings as well as safety harnesses
  • Itemizes all equipment loaned to individuals and/or areas in the Refinery
  • Performs quality checks by inspecting, maintaining, and repairing of all motorized lifting equipment; forklifts, man lifts, mobile cranes, overhead cranes, etc.
  • Oversees annual Certification of all lifting equipment of four (4) tons or more
  • Evaluates equipment needed for any lifting job and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions
  • Uses bundle extractors on exchangers for the purposes of routine and/or turnaround work
  • Attaches rigging hardware (including, but not limited to): slings both wire rope and nylon), snatch blocks, hand operated hoists, tugger hoists, wire bridals, eye shank swivels, shackles, hooks, pelican hooks, fiber rope, turnbuckles, tag lines, beam clamps, sheet clamps, porta powers, rope and tackles, softeners, lifting straps, splicing wire, and fiber rope
  • Relays directions verbally, by two-way radio equipment, and/or by hand signals to the lifting equipment operator
  • Tests and inspects all rigging hardware before each use
  • Prepares lifting equipment for the jobs; attaching jibs/extending booms/cribbing for the leveling of the equipment or crane to be used
  • Uses oxygen and acetylene bottles, gauges, and torches for the sole purpose of cutting up bad wire slings, ropes, bridals, or the cutting of holes in metal for lifting
  • Works within reasonable time limits and in accordance with established procedures, regulations, safe practices, and all applicable codes
  • Estimates labor and materials costs while looking for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs of resources
  • Applies problem solving skills to complex issues and develops recommendations/solutions
  • Follows Onsite policies and procedures
  • This position requires driving on a routine basis
     

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 2 years Rigging experience
  • Provide proof of Journey Level Rigger
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including; full-body coveralls, protective footwear, hard-hats, hearing protection, eye protection, full-face respirators and/or self-contained breathing apparatus
  • Must be able to work overtime, some shift work, holiday, and on-call
  • Must be able to work at heights with appropriate safety precautions
  • Must have strong oral and written communication and team skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internally and externally.

 

NOTE:  If selected to participate in the Pre-employment testing process, you will be required to take the following battery of STANG timed tests: 
Craft Specific Aptitude Assessment
Measures the ability to read, understand, and use information in graphs, charts, tables, and written passages to solve problems and apply general craft knowledge and principles to understand and implement solutions to various situations.
Hands on Skill Assessment
Measures the demonstrated abilities and knowledge of the crane and rigging fundamentals.
tests are focused on industrial aptitudes. Candidates should focus on their abilities, reading comprehension, understanding information in tables and graphs, and understanding industrial math.
 
This job is a Safety Sensitive Position and is subject to Random Drug/Alcohol testing in addition to pre-employment background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years Chevron Richmond Refinery experience
  • Minimum 5 years previous Oil and gas or Petrochemical experience
  • Minimum 5 years Journey-Level Rigger
  • Rigger Certification
  • Signal Person Certification
