We are currently seeking a wide range of candidates for “contingent” openings supporting a current contract award. We are looking for Mid and Junior Data Center Administrator to provide support to the Data Centre (DC) Department.
Our Clients Data Centre (DC) is the mission critical physical infrastructure, where all its IT systems are hosted. Having a well maintained and well operated DC is an absolute requirement to ensure the availability of various IT services to Client business operations.
The job’s main purpose is to facilitate hosting services for the Information Technology (IT) hardware in the Data Centre (DC) environment with an objective of ensuring their availability for business use as per the agreed levels of service:
- Work with IT hardware device owners, facilities providers and their suppliers to support their operational needs - supporting installations, removals, changes and incidents.
- Securing the physical DC access control - escorting of personnel inside the DC on need to access basis.
- The role deals with tasks that require both individual contribution as well as coordinating with internal IT department users, facilities management entities and external vendors. The job requires highly disciplined tasks execution and adequate risk assessments to ensure DC operational risk is very well managed.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily health/operational readiness checks across all data centre support systems. Monitor IT and facilities systems and escalate issues to appropriate entities to ensure effective resolution.
- Provide hands and eyes support for adds, moves, changes and removal of equipment. Update relevant documentations such as rack elevations and assist registers.
- Analyse and determine appropriate equipment layout and operational controls in data centre balancing cooling, power, space and connectivity aspects. Address all issues and escalate them to appropriate teams to ensure effective resolution.
- Ensure client satisfaction and provide optimal level of customer services and maintain effective professional relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensure that all visitors are briefed on health safety and security. Manage visitor log management and ensure all visits are recorded, analysed and reported on a monthly basis. Ensure all maintenance activities conducted in the DC are supported by appropriate permit-to-work process, through risk assessment and approval.
- Review and enhance capacity management process for space, power, cooling and connectivity aspects – measurement and reporting of availability, capacity and efficiency information.
- Ensure adequate cleaning of the DC is performed and it is maintained to respective standards.
- Coordinate with Facilities providers and provision required power and cooling for the new adds, moves and removals.
- Ensure that due maintenance/tests are conducted across all disciplines and address any operational and capacity issues on a priority basis.
- Drive enhancements on the DC infrastructure through active participation in related product sourcing, specifications, vendor selection and service offerings.
- Review and maintain Lifecycle information for DC facilities and environment support systems.
- Review and enhance policies, processes, procedures and checklist for each of the sub-systems including physical access control aspects and update relevant Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents.
- Review and maintain various compliance requirements in terms of legal, standards and local codes and align them to the needs of the Company.
- Review and maintain high level DC configuration information related to IT estate, Facilities and environment systems.
- Carries out other relevant duties as required.
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in similar role, operating enterprise data centres.
- Expert level knowledge in data centres, hardware hosting and related critical facilities systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office and Visio and other IT support systems such as Remedy and Oracle
- Financials to raise/receive requests, changes and tasks.
- Advanced knowledge of business processes and procedures associated with DC Operations.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytic and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of ITIL and preference to foundation certification.
- Training in data centre management discipline from a recognised body.
- Ability to work with tight timelines and under pressure.
- Able to challenge others in constructive ways to drive quality and accuracy.
- Self-motivated to deliver work and drive own standards.
- Proven experience at innovating new methods and solutions to improve efficiency and service levels.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with stakeholders to achieve goals and present to management and technical staff.
