Pre-Contract Stage:
  • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates based on architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents. This involves analyzing quantities of materials, labor, equipment, and other resources required for construction.
  • Bill of Quantities (BOQ) Preparation: Develop a comprehensive BOQ, which is a detailed document listing all items and quantities required for the project. The BOQ serves as a basis for tendering, cost comparison, and contract administration.
  • Budgeting: Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to establish accurate project budgets. Monitor and adjust budgets as necessary throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining project quality and functionality. Suggest alternative materials or construction methods that could provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Tendering: Prepare tender documents, including the BOQ, for contractors to bid on. Evaluate and compare bids received, considering both price and quality, and make recommendations for contractor selection.
Post-Contract Stage:
  • Contract Administration: Manage the financial aspects of the construction contract. Verify that payments to contractors are accurate and in line with the progress of the project. Address any contractual claims or disputes related to quantities, variations, or changes.
  • Cost Control: Monitor project costs against the budget, tracking expenditures and identifying any deviations. Implement strategies to keep the project within budget while maintaining quality standards.
  • Variation and Change Management: Assess and quantify any changes or variations to the original project scope. Evaluate the impact of these changes on the project budget and timeline, and negotiate adjustments with contractors.
  • Progress Reporting: Provide regular updates to stakeholders regarding the project's financial status, highlighting any potential cost overruns or savings. This helps in making informed decisions and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Final Account Preparation: Prepare the final account, reconciling all costs and payments throughout the project's duration. Ensure that all financial aspects of the project are accurately documented for project closure.
